Well other than a late game last week of Time's up, we have played endless hours of Werewolf. For those of you unfamiliar with this college party game (aka Mafia), players are dealt a card which labels them as a werewolf or a towns person. Each night the werewolves (2) murder a towns person. When dawn comes, the town lynches a player (which they hope is a werewolf). After the mob selects their victim, their card is revealed and everyone knows whether or not they lynched a werewolf or an innocent. In either case, the cycle repeats until both werewolves are dead, or the werewolves remaining equal the size of the town (in which case the werewolves win). The game requires 9 or MORE players.
Even though we SHOULD have kept stats, we did not. The first week had the
werewolves winning almost every time. This week, is was much closer. We'll
start keeping stats.
The problem with this game is that I am taking it WAY to serious. As we
all know, taking a game too serious can result in annoying behavior. So,
with that in mind I will admit my top pet peeves with this game:
1. Don's obsession with the cards are being equally worn.
2. My obsession with the dead leaving the table and not talking.
3. Townspeople saying "I am not a werewolf!"
4. Werewolves saying "I am not a werewolf!"
5. People who are dead saying "I am not a werewolf!"
6. I keep calling everyone Vampires! (How stupid am I anyway?)
7. Don't know who to pick, fall back to... "Kill Ray" (of course, I can
not really argue with the long-standing decision default).
Things I am thrilled about: Michelle brought cookies 'and fruit for the
smoothie machine!!! This makes Pete and Michelle our new winners of the
"Players of the Week (music)" award.
Now I am sure I'll get guff for giving this first ever award of "Player of
the Week (music)" for non-game skills. To which I say, "Hmph". So there.
Ed, John, Alias Johnny and myself snuck in a game of RA before the other
players arrived. I, through cheap bidding, was WAY out in front after 2
turns. Ed ALMOST caught up with 30 monument points, but his two penalties
for no culture and fewest Pharaohs cost him the game. Ray 50, Ed 40
(started round 3 with ONE point, had a total of at least 14 penalty points
over the course of 3 turns), others less (I did not write it down).
Winner Ra Ray 50 - Ed 40 - John P. 26 - John M. 23

Game Night: Saturday 1-12-2002

This Saturday was Jacqueline's birthday party. What a wild
time, with kids everywhere. Game night was chaos night.
Welcome goes out to our newest attendees Don & Lisa. We hope they had as much
fun as we did. I have to assume it was not all bad since at one point, Don
was laughing so hard he was crying. Glad to see Tom and I are not the only
ones! Drink of the night was Banana Rum, Pineapple juice, and Ice in the
blender. Simple, but good.
We decided to start simple and grabbed Take 6. After a quick practice round,
we started in. Most of the game consisted of yelling either "Rooney eats it"
or "MENSA GAME!" whenever anyone made even the slightest misstep. Oh yes, we
kept score too.
Take 6 Winner Suzanne 19 - Laura 22 - Ray 26 - Mike M. 36 - Don ? 63 - Lisa 68
Formula De Winner Ed - Jenny - Steve - Ray - John P.
Werewolf Winner Werewolves 3 - Villagers 2
Liar's Dice Winner Steve - Jen - Pat - Suzanne - Ray - John P. - Ed - Jenny - Dugger

Game Night: Saturday 1-19-2002

First of all, lets all remember casserole night! Ed cheated
and I became very domestic. Pictures will speak volumes, so I will not detail
anything. Mike's dish, called something akin to Flugal, was my favorite.
Ed brought a new game called Meridian. Simple on page rules, placement type
game. Nice art and board and pieces. I did not play, so here is a score:
Ok, I'm not sure if I liked this game. It is by the same
people that did Carolus Magnus, very simple and I think it is a quick game
when you know how to play. The map is made up of islands with cities and is
broken up by meridians that look like time zones. You get 13 cards (each
player gets the same set) numbered 1-10 and three special cards 1=1,2,3,4
1=5,6,7 1=8,9,10,11 (I think that is the special cards, you get the idea).
everyone starts the game by flipping the top two cards over. On your turn you
can choose one of your two cards and place a garrison in that meridian. Most
of the islands only have one city in any one give meridian, some have
multiples. The catch, you only have 20 garrisons to place, and you can place a
stack as large as you want, but they can be moved. Placement rules: The first
garrison placed in a meridian must be at least 2 high. Garrisons can only be
played above a garrison that is lower in height and under a garrison of higher
height, this means the bottom of the meridian on the board will have the
garrisons of height of one and the top will be like 5 or better. If the
two bottom garrisons are 1 and 3 high, you can displace the others if you have
room, this way you slide all the garrisons up or down, if they have a place to
go, if not it's an invalid move. When everyone has played all 13 cards, the
game is over, the island scores go to the person with the most garrisons, ties
win nothing. Like Carolus Magnus, this may take a few plays to grow on us.
Meridian Winner John M. 15 - Ed 12 - Noelle 10 - Ashley 1
Next , was a marathon Liars Dice contest, the finally silenced Alias Johnny's famous quote "I never win this".
Liar's Dice Winner John P. - Ed - John M. - Ashley - Don - Ray - Jen - Noelle
Liar's Dice Winner Don - Ashley - Ed - John P. - Noelle - John M. - Jen
Liar's Dice Winner John P. - Noelle - Ed - Don - Ray - Pete - Ashley - John M.
There was a brief break here as we watched New England beat
Oakland in Overtime in a brutal snowstorm. Very cool.
Somewhere, somehow, Werewolf came up again. John M. PRODUCED a special set of
cards using blank card stock, photos from Monty Python, and much patience.
This time, the townskeepers pitchforks were red hot.
Werewolf Winner Villagers 5 - Werewolves 2
In a related note, there was a intense 'Hat Trick' battle between Don and I. It is a simple 2 player hockey game on the mame cabinet. Tons a laughs. I beat Don (who was wiping out everyone else who played) and in the rematch, he beat me in overtime (3 to 2).

Game Night: Saturday 1-26-2002

Since we had a new attendee, "Brian", who came to use via a common interest in TRW, Cigars, and beer brews, the evening started with a cigar on what is affectionately now called the 'Lido deck'. This is due to the fact that the hot tub has been winterized and can no longer be called the spa room.
When players arrived, Ed broke out a new card game with VERY pretty cards. Each
was shiny and hypnotized me.
Gargon Winner Noelle 74 - Don 42 -
John P. 38 - Ed 34 - Suzanne 28
Gargon Winner Suzanne 58 - Noelle 57 - Don 55 - John P. 38 - Ed 35
When Pete and Michelle decided to stay on the Lido deck with us, I broke out "camel game". Brian ignored our constant assurances that Pete would win and cleaned our clocks.
Through The Desert Winner Brian 68 - Steve 65 - Ray 53 - Pete 52 - Michelle 42
Since we had exactly 10, and wanted to play something else besides "Werewolf", we grabbed Take 6 again. The scoring was completely overshadowed by the lively and colorful discussion of Suzanne's Lesbian Hockey Team.
Take 6 Winner Suzanne 25 - Brian 28 - Pete 31 - Ray 32 - John P. 38 - Noelle 48 - Steve 48 - Ed 50 - Michelle 77
Then, werewolf the inevitable. The townspeople are getting good at this now, and simply staring at Suzanne saves you an entire question from the Seeker. Simply ask her if she is a werewolf, and if so, here face turns bright red. Can't be any easier than that folks!
Werewolf Villagers 4 - Werewolves 3
