Game Night: Saturday 12-1-2002
This past Saturday, we tried a new game configuration. It seems that Ed's game
FFF allows you to play multiboard. Thus the number of players is theoretically
infinite. This seemed like a great thing to try. Alas, I am not sure the game
was balanced properly to work this way. Johnny and I EASILY plundered our board
and exited to the other board before the other table could even get a good
start. The mechanics of the game in general are slightly burdensome, and the
execution detracts from the fun. At times, it seems like you are trying to play
the board game version of MULE.
Next, we played Zombies. With the exception of the victory conditions, the game
is silly beer-pretzels fun. Out of the box victory conditions, render the game
frustrating to players. This was in evidence when Don got killed and had to
restart. The victory exit (yup, that's how you win), spawn NEXT TO HIM!
Without even taking out a zombie he walked off the board. New victory
conditions? NO EXIT! Or, if you choose to take the exit (its a helicopter, by
the way), you must be the last surviving player! This easily fixes the game and
now I look forward to playing it again and trying that.
Lastly, like a fool's folly, we returned to BANG! The old west version of
werewolf. Great game, and you only need 5-7 to play instead of 9+ players. You
need to try this game. At first, you go "hmmm, not sure I get this". But after
a few games, the competition is brutal. PLUS, listen now... YOU GET TO TALK
LIKE IN THE WESTERNS! This should not be underestimated.
